DAIRY industry stalwart Sandy Wilkie has retired, bringing a five-decade career to a close.
After 51 years’ service to the industry, most notably to Müller and, before that, Robert Wiseman Dairies, Wilkie called it a day at the end of September.
A well-kent face to convenience retailers across Scotland, Wilkie was born on his family’s dairy farm in Blantyre, getting his first brush with retail in the 1960s, delivering milk door to door.
He went on to develop the family business, before moving to Robert Wiseman Dairies in 1987, where he spent 25 years in various roles, including at director level.
In 2012, he joined Müller following the acquisition of Wiseman’s. Most recently, he has been supporting milk&more, following a decision to invest in the growth of the delivery business.
“Sandy has contributed significantly to the Müller business and we thank him for his years of dedication.”
Well-respected within the industry, he has received various awards for his work with a number of trade organisations across the dairy, farming, retail and food sectors, including the Dairy Council, Scottish Food Trade Association (SFTA), Royal Highland Show and Young Farmers.
In 2005 he was the recipient of the Scottish Grocer Award for Industry Achievement, recognising his impact as sales and marketing director of Robert Wiseman Dairies, where he was a pioneer of new products and innovative marketing campaigns.
In a joint statement, Andrew McInnes, MD of Müller Milk & Ingredients, and Patrick Mueller, MD of milk&more, said: “Sandy has contributed significantly to the Müller business and we thank him for his years of dedication and wish him all the very best for the future.”
