ALDI, M&S Simply Food, and Home Bargains are all heading for Cumbernauld after North Lanarkshire planning committee unanimously approved plans for a new neighbourhood centre in the town’s Westfield area.
Developer L&S Broadwood claimed the £25m development will bring 200 full-time jobs and around 50 jobs in the construction phase, which may start later this year.
And L&S Broadwood development director Bryan Wilson argued the centre would be an asset for local people who currently have few local amenities.
The development includes a seven-unit shopping parade, a pub, a drive-through coffee shop, a petrol station and 600 car parking spaces on a brown field site near Broadwood Stadium. M&S Simply Food and Aldi will be neighbours in units 7 and 8 and Starbucks is said to be in advanced negotiations over the lease of the coffee shop.
