Bru firm takes on Snapple

Irn-bruIRN-BRU owner AG Barr will add a new brand to its portfolio after signing a 10-year deal to distribute Snapple products in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
The announcement came after the company issued half-year results which showed significant increases in turnover and profit.
Turnover in the six months to 27 July 2014 was up 5.4% to £135.7m.
Profit before tax and exceptional items increased by 14.6% to £19m. Underlying profit was said to be £18.4m, an increase of 11%.
The company’s interim statement said its value and volume increases had outperformed the market as measured by Nielsen.
“The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games provided us with a great platform for much of our brand-building actions across our portfolio of core brands – Irn-Bru, Rubicon, Barr and Strathmore,” it said.
The company also launched a number of new products, including Rubicon Coconut Water, Irn-Bru ice cream and Barr Xtra Cola, in the period.
