REGULAR Lotto customer, 82-year-old Mary Anne McMillan, got a surprise when she put her numbers on last month.

A series of National Lottery-backed groups – including a full samba band – plus TV star John Barrowman – popped in to thank customers at Browns Newsagent, in the Cardonald area of Glasgow, for all the cash raised at the store in the past 20 years.
The event, called Lotto Cheer, also celebrated the £2.5bn pumped into more than 51,000 Scottish community projects over two decades of the lottery.
Browns was chosen as the venue for the Lotto Cheer after raising £2.7m for good causes – more than any other independent retailer in Scotland. Owner, Michael Brown, said: “The Lotto Cheer morning was the most fun our shop has ever known. Our customers have never seen anything like it before – they’re still talking about it.”
