Summer heatwave helps Barr boom

THE sunny summer has helped fizzy drinks giant AJ Barr’s half-year profit before tax increase to £16.6m, up 12.3%.
Turnover increased to £128.7m, a 5.8% jump.
Carbonated drinks were the star performers, up 7% over the period. Still drinks were up 2%.
The half-year report stated: “we have continued to invest in the development of our brands for the long term, investing more in marketing and brand development, as well as executing a number of important brand initiatives during the period. We also benefited from a less volatile cost environment, aided by good levels of forward foreign exchange cover.”
